Ella Watson with three grandchildren and an adopted daughter. Taken by Gordon Parks, an African American photographer for the Farm Security Administration in 1942. This is a highly narrative photo, beautifully captured by Mr. Parks. Ella Watson is on the left with her grand-babies and is the "charwoman" who is featured in Parks' American Gothic photo with a mop and broom and the American Flag in the background. There are four generations pictured in this photo. Parks worked with Ms. Watson for several weeks and had taken many photographs of her.
