Amelia Earhart, First Woman Pilot to Fly Solo Across Atlantic

Emelia was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She received the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross for this accomplishment. She and her navigator, Fred Noonan, disappeared on July 2, 1937 while circumnavigating the globe from New Guinea to Howland Island.
