Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage March, May 9, 1914

On May 2, 1914, nationwide demonstrations resonated in support of this crucial Amendment (see advertisement of the march below, not for sale). Dedicated envoys from these demonstrations arrived in Washington on May 9th, carrying with them a multitude of petitions. They embarked on a solemn procession from Lafayette Square, making their way to Congress. Along the way, the entourage, numbering in the thousands, converged on and around the East Steps of the Capitol. As they gathered, their voices harmonized in a powerful chorus, singing "The March of the Women." This inspiring anthem, composed by Ethel Smyth in 1910, featured stirring lyrics penned by Cicely Hamilton (see below for lyrics, not for sale).

In this remarkable moment, women from all walks of life joined forces, standing resolute in their pursuit of equality. The air resonated with determination and unity as their voices intertwined, carrying the message of suffrage and equality across the halls of power.
