 John Vachon was a photographer for the Farm Security Administration (FSA), an agency established by the U.S. government during the Great Depression to document rural life and conditions in the United States. In 1942, he was sent to Cincinnati, Ohio, to photograph the city and its residents as part of the FSA's effort to document the effects of the war on the American home front.

The image of the little boy you're looking at is only one of the many photographs Vachon took during his time in Cincinnati. Kodachrome was a popular color film at the time and the Kodachrome process was known for its rich, vibrant colors, and the image of this little boy captures the bright and bold hues of everyday life in Cincinnati during the war years.
