An old photo of Pittsburgh looking down a flight of stairs towards the Mills in wintertime. The Mill District was important to the Pittsburgh economy and produced about one-third of the nation's steel in the 1920s. It was also home to the world's largest tube and pipe mill, structural steel plant, rail mill, wire manufacturing plant, bridge, and construction fabricating plant.
