Downtown Dallas Texas at night in 1942 with the original Pegasus lit up. This iconic image is a beloved symbol of the city, and is a great way to commemorate the history and culture of Dallas.
The reason for the presence of Pegasus in Dallas dates back to the 1930s when the Magnolia Petroleum Company (later known as Mobil Oil) adopted the winged horse, Pegasus, as its logo. The iconic red Pegasus became synonymous with the company and adorned the roof of the Magnolia Building in downtown Dallas. Over the years, the Pegasus symbolized progress, innovation, and the city's association with the oil industry. Although the original rooftop sign was removed, a replica of the Pegasus was installed in 2000 atop the Magnolia Hotel, serving as a nostalgic tribute to Dallas' history and symbolizing the city's vibrant spirit.
